Job description

As Entrepreneur-in-Residence, you will drive all aspects of venture creation, from concept validation through to investment readiness. You will shape the blueprint for an investor-ready company active in the isolation, cultivation and use of low-abundant microbial species for agricultural, industrial or therapeutic applications. The selected candidate will have the potential to step in as CEO upon incorporation.

Venture ideation and validation

Define the value proposition and position the venture within the competitive landscape. Validate the market need through interviews with potential customers, industry experts and stakeholders. Assess growth potential and alignment with proprietary technologies.

Business model development

Design and refine a scalable business model including offerings, pricing strategies and go-to-market plans. Build financial models and analyse cost structures and projected revenues.

Technology evaluation and strategy

Work closely with technical teams to leverage proprietary technologies effectively. Identify additional technology needs or complementary assets required to secure competitive advantage.

Customer engagement and traction

Validate market demand by engaging directly with potential customers. Build early relationships that lead to pilot projects, collaborations and strategic partnerships, creating tangible proof of interest and future growth potential.

Investment readiness

Prepare comprehensive investment materials such as a business plan, financial projections and pitch deck. Engage proactively with venture capital investors and obtain soft commitments.

Leadership and team building

Define the competences and skills required for the venture’s success. Draft role descriptions for executive leadership and core team members needed to execute the business plan.

Required competences & skills

  • Proven experience as a founder, CEO or early-stage executive in biotech, agtech or related fields
  • Strong understanding of microbial innovation or its applications
  • Track record in attracting investors, pitching successfully and securing financing for new ventures
  • Ability to combine strategic vision with hands-on execution
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with investors and partners
